Hey. I'm moving to Alaska in a few days, and I wanted to get a general sense of what the state thought of the guy. Any comments would be appreciated. Also, does the result of the election in November look like it will be a close race, or will one end easily come out on top?

We have a nickname for some types of federal funding: Stevens money.
"Uncle Ted" does not seriously face any sort of opposition (it took me a second to even remember when/if he was up for re-election). Alaska
magazine ran an article about his eventual retirement from politics focusing on "Oh noes! What will we do without Stevens?!?" He has airports and more named after him. Most people like him, or at least appreciate the money he gets. In fact, in the most recent senate election, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (much less well liked) had an ad about how it was necessary to elect just so that she could help Ted retain his committee chairs.
I think few people in Alaska actually think the man should still be in politics. His priorities are often hugely out of touch. Yet, what are our other options? There are none. And he does bring in a lot
of money for rural Alaska. I think his contradictions reflect Alaska pretty well.
Also: great flag icon, and where are you moving to? I assume Anchorage, but I could be wrong.
Thanks for the help. I feel like he's a bit off, but I wasn't sure how everyone else felt. I'm from PA, where a pretty crazy senator has enjoyed a much larger amount of support from the state than outsiders might expect.
I'm actually moving to Nome, which should be quite the adventure. Have you been?

I've not got that same impression. You been hanging around Juneau, or something?
You are right on the money. Yup, Juneau 4-ever.
I'll be voting for him in the upcoming election. I am pretty satisfied with all he's done, but he's all I've ever known so I can't really compare him to others...
really wish Mr. Murkowski had stayed down there instead of coming back to be governor...
sorry that was OT... I think it's a given that Ted will be back in DC... the big race will be governor... Murkowski vs Knowles should be interesting...
